In a twist that fans of Competitive Call of Duty didn’t see coming, James “Clayster” Eubanks has officially entered retirement after a jaw-dropping 16-year saga in esports. Just days before the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches, he made his heartfelt announcement.
Starting his journey into competitive gaming at the young age of 15 back in 2007, Clayster quickly became a key player in the Call of Duty scene. Since his explosive entry, he has turned into a true legend, becoming a three-time world champion. His first world championship came during the Advanced Warfare era in 2015, where he dominated with Denial Esports and was celebrated as the MVP in the finals. Clayster’s legacy continued to grow with wins in 2019 with eUnited in Black Ops 4, and again in 2020 with Dallas Empire while playing Modern Warfare.

Reflecting on a Legendary Career
In a recent Twitter video titled “Gratitude,” on October 23, Clayster shared emotions that resonated deeply with fans, stating, “Thank you to everyone who made pro CoD possible.” His historical record speaks volumes out of the 99 major tournaments he entered, he clinched victory in 20. Clayster’s tenure spans influential teams like FaZe Clan and CompLexity, paving the way for future pros.
As Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set for its official rollout on October 25, there’s still a sense of lingering hope from fans about seeing him in the next Call of Duty League. Unfortunately, this dream won’t manifest. Clayster’s last team was the Carolina Royal Ravens, but he openly acknowledged that his final seasons didn’t quite hit the mark he aimed for. The announcement came shortly after the team parted ways with him in early July.
